A fake antivirus, also called rogueware, will try to convince you that you’re having a lot of malware infections by providing false scanning result.
System Tools is one of them. So if you have one installed in your PC, it’s a fake antivirus and you need to remove it. It will change your wallpaper and warns you about the threats in your PC. However, this is fake warning and you should not visit their website and buy the software.
Here’s how to remove System Tools fake antivirus from your PC:
1. Restart your computer in safe mode by pressing f8 while your PC reboots.
2. After you enter the safe mode, you need to edit your registry by going to start-> and type regedit in the search box. If you’re using Windows XP, it should be Start-> Run-> Regedit
3. Delete these entries from your registry.
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ System Tool 2011
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run -> 5648541024
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run -> [random]
In my case, I deleted this entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\eCdGdEm09000
3. Find the System Tools folder and delete it. It should be somewhere at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\\[random]\ (ex.: eCdGdEm09000.exe)
4. Afterward, restart your system and you should be ok.
