I purchase this game during the Steam Winter Sale after reading the review at the Gamespot.com and decided to create my own review.
I started the game in normal mode and went with the Outlander class. It’s a gun wielding class. You can choose from 4 classes, Outlander – The Gun Wielding Hero, basically the range hero. The Embermage – The Spellcaster, the mage class, Berserker – Two Fisted Barbarian, a melee hero, Engineer – The Ironclad Powerhouse, the tanker class.
The gameplay is more or less like the Diablo 3 and concentrate more on loots rather than the storyline. I’m not saying that the storyline is no good, but maybe they can expand the storyline a bit more.
The graphic is not bad and I can say it’s quite good. At first I thought that I can choose all the skills like Diablo 3, but as the game progressed, I realized that I need to choose certain skills to suit my style. So I choose abilities that can maintain my range with the enemy and also skills that can hit two or more enemies at once.
I also increased my dexterity and strength most of the time so I can dual wield better with my handgun and increase my damage. I forgot to mention that you actually gain 4 stat points and 1 ability point every time you leveled up. so every time you level up, you can choose to increase any of your stats. Strength, to increase your weapon damage, dexterity, to increase your critical hit, focus, to increase your magic skills and mana, and vitality, to increase your health point and regen.
Other than that, I also have a pet that can fight for me and sometimes act as my tank. You can increase your pet combat skills by feeding it with a few types of fish one at a time. Your pet will gain stun, or immobilizing skills, or increased stats and much more.
You can do some fishing in town area or where you can find a fishing pond. The fishing is a mini-game which adds more fun to the game. Sometimes if I’m a bit bored of hacking and slashing, I will go fishing and increase my inventory with fishes so I can feed my pet during a boss fight.
I never played the first Torchlight but I found that Torchlight 2 is a fun game. It’s a fun game to play and I highly recommend you to buy it.
