I just read an article about email viruses and it explains how you can create an email virus alert system for free. It’s quite simple actually.

As most of you know, there are viruses that will use your email client to send messages to all your contacts in your contact list. The emails that it will send will contain virus in the attachment or a link where it will point to a virus download.

However, there is a way how you can create an alert system for free. First of all, what you need to do is you need to create a new contact on your contact list. Add the contact name as ‘!00′ and the email address will be ‘Virus Alert’.

Therefore, every time the virus tries to send an email to your contact list, it will send it to the first name in the contact list and that will be the ‘!00′. The email will bounce back because the email address is invalid and you will be notified when that happens.

So, this way, you have created a system where it will notify you if there is a virus that is trying to use your email.

Guess what? I received an email today asking me to download critical Windows updates from its attachment. This email makes me think, if this email come from Microsoft and it contains updates for Windows, why not install it using Windows Update?

Second, have you ever received an email from Microsoft? I don’t know about you, but I never ever received any email from Microsoft asking me to update Windows from email attachments.

Here’s the email body :

“Dear, customer

of Wilmette, Ill. stress for children in the shuffle, the academy’s report. compared with often is sacrificed Social pressures compared with of me that become creative, often is sacrificed Ginsburg, the report’s lead author and son in particular has has a “

This email is very unprofessional. Will Microsoft address me as “customer”? I don’t think so. They have all the information they need to address me as my name or stating what OS that I use.

This email doesn’t even state the update is for what OS. Windows ME? Vista? XP Home? or XP Professional? It lacks information. PLUS, the email didn’t came from Microsoft.com and it came from another domain name.

Look at the last messages, what it has to do with Windows Update?

I sent the email to SpamCop.net and check its IP location using http://ip-adress.com/ipaddresstolocation/ and found out that it’s from Buxton in UK. Does Microsoft has an office there?

Conclusion? This is another Trojan Horse attack and I don’t have to download the attachment to find out. I just deleted the email. If this email truly came from Microsoft, they will update the critical updates from Windows Update.

Remember, if you received this type of email, ignore it and NEVER download the attachment.

I got one email about a greeting card that was sent to me. The email subject title is ‘Ecard Greeting Inside’ and the body reads

Here is the new Psycho cat card. [link removed]

The link is actually an IP address and I removed it for security purposes. Be careful when you received this Ecards type of emails and as I always mention in my post, never ever click any links in unknown emails.

I locate the IP address using http://www.ip-adress.com/ and found out that the location is at Romania.
