I notice that Avast! is updating its definition more frequently than before. I don’t know what happen actually but it might be a sign of increasing threats on the internet or it’s just normal updates.
However, if it’s true, then you might want to be extra cautious when surfing. I went to check for few threat meters available online and McAfee Threat Meter shows the current threat as Elevated and the definition is:
- An unpatched or recently patched vulnerability is present on many systems worldwide but requires user interaction to be exploited.
- An existing vulnerability becomes more serious because new exploit code has been published.
- There is new malware activity, but it is not widespread.
Elevated is on the second level after Low but before Severe and Critical. But, when I checked the Symantec Threatcon, it shows the risks as Level 1: Normal.
My own opinion, as of right now, we can say that it’s in normal or low level but I think not for long. Maybe somewhere, someone is waiting to release something big. Just like the Conficker Worm.
